Happy Birthday !!!

Hello everyone!  I have a quick card to share with you today. It's another project with the Odorless Mineral Spirits that I showed you how to use earlier this week.

A few of you asked what kind of white paper I use when I'm doing this technique.  All of my white cardstock is usually Georgia Pacific which you can get in a GIANT pack at Walmart for super cheap.  The only time I use different white cardstock is when I use Copics.  And then I use X-Press It ~ Blending Card paper.

The black card base and the black cardstock on this card are from Recollections.  The fun polka dot patterned paper is my favorite Doodlebug Design ~ Petite Prints.  The rainbow paper in the background started off as plain white cardstock.  I colored it with Prismacolor ~ Pencils and then blended with Odorless Mineral Spirits.  I used pop dots behind some of the balloons for dimension.  To make the balloons, I used one of the ornament dies in the My Creative Time ~ Warm Holiday Fun stamp set.  The balloon strings are all made with The Twinery ~ Charcoal twine.  And the "Happy Birthday" sentiment is from the My Creative Time ~ Floral Sentiments stamp set.  The ink is black ~ Ranger Archival Ink.

That's it for today.  Sorry so short, it's been a busy couple of weeks.  Hopefully I will get back to my regular posting schedule soon.  Have a great holiday weekend everyone!

MCT ~ "Show Me Your Technique"

Hello everyone!  Emma with My Creative Time has created a fun new segment called "Show Me Your Technique". Every Tuesday, 3 members of the MCT ~ Design Team will have a mini blog hop where hopefully you will learn all kinds of new stuff!  I remember when I was brand new to the world of paper crafting, I searched all over the internet for fun tips and techniques - always ready to learn something new.  So hopefully this will be fun and exciting for you.  You should have arrived here from Amy's blog, if not make sure you go back there so you can start at the beginning.

TECHNIQUE:  How to use Odorless Mineral Spirits with your colored pencils.

For all of you who may be intimidated by all the fancy markers out there now, this technique is for you.  I learned it last year from a sweet Cricut Circle member named Sandy.  And I've also seen Nikki from Scrappin' Navy Wife use it too.

Here are the supplies you will need:

You can find Odorless Mineral Spirits at Walmart in the spray paint section.  In order to make it easier to use, I have this smaller bottle, which I got in the spice section at Target.  (Since I don't cook...LOL...I just poured out the spice and poured in the liquid).  I have Prismacolor ~ Pencils, but any brand you have will do.  And in the bottom left corner of the picture are these little pencil like thingies called Tortillons.  You can get these at Michaels or Joanns in the art section.

INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Stamp the image of your choice.  (I use black ~ Ranger Archival Ink).
  • Color in the image with your colored pencils. (For my images today I colored fairly lightly, but you can color darker if you want).
  • Take your Tortillon and dip the tip of it into the Odorless Mineral Spirits.
  • Then, use the Tortillon and go back over the coloring - using the same motion just like you were using the colored pencil .  (I use a different Tortillon for each color).
  • Periodically, you will need to keep dipping the Tortillon into the Odorless Mineral Spirits and continue as before.

What you will notice is that the color will become much deeper and richer, as well as look a little smoother.  Here are some before and after images:

BEFORE.  These cute little snowmen are from the My Creative Time ~ All Around Accessories stamp set.

AFTER.  Can you see the difference?  I used the Odorless Mineral Spirits on the snowman on the left.

BEFORE. This cute couple is from the Peachy Keen Stamps ~ Faceless Christmas Heads.  Their sweet little faces are from the Peachy Keen Stamps ~ Winter Wonderland Face Assortment.

DURING.  Here is a mid-action shot.

AFTER.  Isn't the difference amazing?  And it's so much easier than using those fancy markers AND much cheaper too!!!

BEFORE.  These little Santa coats are also from the My Creative Time ~ All Around Accessories stamp set.

AFTER.  Once again, you can see the richer and smoother look. I love it!!!

Here is the final product.  Super cute!  I just love them all. These are all the brand new My Creative Time ~ Card Sentiments with Fancy Tri-fold Card.

The paper for this card is from the Recollections ~ Sugar Plums stack.  I used some pop dots behind the snowman.  I also added some Glossy Accents to his hat.  The crinkle ribbon is from my stash.  I used Versamark ~ Watermark Ink and White ~ Stampendous Embossing Powder to heat emboss the sentiment.  Inside is a yummy Ghirardelli Chocolate!

The paper for this card is from the Recollections ~ Jingle Bells stack.  I used some pop dots behind the little snowlady.  And I added some Glossy Accents to her hat.  The pretty twine is The Twinery ~ Pink Sorbet twine.

The paper for this card is from the Recollections ~ Sugar Plums stack.  I used some pop dots behind the Santa coat.  I added Star Dust ~ Stickles for some sparkle.  And the bow is made with white ~ DMC floss.

Here are some final comparison photos:

Well, that's it my creative friends.  I hope you learned something new.  Don't be afraid to try it.  It's super fun and super easy.  And it's just a little something extra to make your projects really pop!!!  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me.  :)

Your next stop in the hop is Cathryn.  Happy crafting!

My Creative Time ~ New Challenge - Host : Emma

Hello everyone!  Emma with My Creative Time has decided to change things up a bit and today we are introducing a new challenge that will take place twice a month.  Emma and the MCT ~ Design Team will each take turns hosting the challenge.  This is going to be so fun and different.  I can't wait to see all of your creations!

First up is Emma and her challenge is: A Pinterest Inspired Project.  To get all the details for the challenge, head on over to My Creative Time to read all about it.

I'm a total newbie to the world of Pinterest and haven't really mastered navigating around the site yet, but I found this really neat layout over at The Studios Challenge Blog.  It's the layout by Daphne and she used a bunch of different papers from her scraps pile to make all of these really beautiful tags that really enhanced her layout.  So I decided to look in my scraps drawer and make this fun Christmas card using one of Emma's tag dies.

What do you think?  It's a little different, but I think it turned out kinda cute.  The red card base is Bazzill and the white cardstock and brown tree stem are Recollections.  The tan background patterned paper is from the Die Cuts With A View ~ Linen Closet stack.  And all of the fun patterned papers for the Christmas Tree are from the Die Cuts With A View ~ The Christmas & Winter stack.

To make all of the little "tree branches", I used the top layer of the layering tag dies in the My Creative Time ~ Fly Away With Me Sentiments stamp set.  Then I just overlapped them in the shape of a tree (easier said than done when you're a little OCD...lol).

At the very top of the tree, I added a yellow button from my stash.  I threaded it with The Twinery ~ Maraschino Twine. And then added a little yellow flower gem to the center of that. The "Happy Holidays!" sentiment is from the new My Creative Time ~ From Our Family To Yours stamp set that was released last week.  The ink is black ~ Ranger Archival ink.  I also used pop dots behind the tree to give the whole thing some dimension.

That's it.  Really pretty simple and easy to mass produce if you wanted to make Christmas Cards.  Now let's see what you all can create.  Head on over to My Creative Time to get all the details and join in on the fun.  See you all again soon!

My Creative Time ~ August Stamp Release : BLOG HOP !!!

Hello everyone!  What a FABULOUS Sneak Peek Week, don't you think?  I hope you are filled with tons of creative inspiration for the upcoming holidays.  (Wow!  It's hard for me to say "upcoming holidays" when it's still 115 degrees here in Phoenix!!!  LOL)  Well, hopefully you have arrived here from the incredibly talented Amy's blog.  If not, then make sure you go back to My Creative Time so that you can start at the beginning with Emma.  You definitely don't want to miss a thing!

For my projects today, I am showcasing the From Our Family To Yours stamp set.

I decided to stay with the Christmas theme so maybe it would help keep my mind off the hot temperatures outside...lol. These are both 6x6 cards.

The white and the black cardstock are both from Recollections. The pretty blue patterned paper is from the Die Cuts With A View ~ The Christmas & Winter stack.  If you look closely you can see that I added various sizes of clear gems inside the star bursts for a little extra sparkle.  The pretty bow is made with Celebrate It ~ Holiday ribbon.

Both of the sentiments and the cute patootie little penguin family are from the brand new My Creative Time ~ From Our Family To Yours stamp set.  The ink is black ~ Ranger Archival Ink.  I popped it up with some pop dots for a little dimension.

For this card, the white cardstock is from Recollections. The red cardstock is from Bazzill.  And the green patterned paper is from the Die Cuts With A View ~ The Christmas & Winter stack. And the beautiful bow is made with Celebrate It ~ Holiday ribbon.

I used the same two sentiments as in the last card.  And the beautiful image is the brand new My Creative Time ~ Christmas House stamp.  And as a special treat . . . Emma will be giving this away to the first 75 people who order!!  How fun is that?  I colored the house with Prismacolor ~ Pencils and then blended with Odorless Mineral Spirits.  I added a little red gem for the door handle.  And for some extra sparkle, I used Star Dust ~ Stickles for the snow.  What a pretty little scene don't you think?  I'm thinking 25-30 degrees sounds much better than 115 degrees.  On second thought, nah . . . I'd rather turn on my AC than shovel snow . . . LOL!!!

Well, that's it my friends.  With all of the holiday fun this week, you all have plenty of inspiration to get started on your holiday projects.  No procrastinating!!!   ;)

Hello everyone!  I can't believe this week is almost over.  I don't know about you, but I have just been filled with all kinds of creative inspiration this week!  Well, it's time for the My Creative Time ~ Sneak Peek Week : Day 4.  And everyone will be showcasing two sets:  Card Sentiments (which includes a super terrific Fancy Tri-fold Card Die) and the Fancy Envelope Die.  These are "to Die for!"   LOL   You think I'm being funny, but I'm totally serious!!!

Today, I'm going to show you the Card Sentiments with the Fancy Tri-fold Card Die.

This brand new My Creative Time ~ 3x3 Fancy Tri-fold Card Die is very similar to the My Creative Time ~ Embossed Gift Card Holder Die (greatest invention ever!!!).  And it's just as easy to use!!  You are going to LOVE it!!!

The funky patterned paper for this card is from the Simple Stories ~ Elementary collection.  The fun stack of books and the apple are images that I cut out by hand from the same collection.  I used some pop dots for dimension.  The "Just for You" sentiment is from this brand new My Creative Time ~ Card Sentiments stamp & die set.  In the upper left corner, the "#1 Teacher" is from the My Creative Time ~ My Teacher Rocks stamp set.  I tied it shut with Liz's Paper Loft Boutique ~ Hemp Twine.  A perfect little card for back to school!

The fun polka dot paper for this card is from the Fancy Pants Designs ~ Beach Bum collection.  The "Happy Birthday" sentiment is also from this great new set.  I tied it shut with some fun Celebrate It ~ Occasions Tulle.  In the center, I added a fun brad from my stash and on top of that, I added a cute little Jolee's Boutique ~ candle sticker.

Just had to make another one.  :)  The paper for this one is from the Basic Grey ~ Green At Heart collection.  The "Friends Forever" sentiment is from the new My Creative Time ~ Just Simply Live stamp set that I showed you yesterday.  I tied it shut with some crinkle ribbon from my stash and a pretty little flower gem from my stash as well.

That's it!  Super quick and easy, but oh so cute!!!

My Creative Time ~ Sneak Peek Day 3 : August Release

Hello everyone!  Haven't all the sneaks been fabulous so far??  I just love all the talent on this Design Team!  Well, it's time for the My Creative Time ~ Sneak Peek Week : Day 3. Today, we are all showcasing the new set called:  Just Simply Live. This is an AWESOME new set with a super fun Polaroid Die and a bunch of great sentiments AND an alphabet & number set!!!

Are you ready for some good laughs???

I decided to change things up a little, so I made a 12x12 layout that I mounted in this frame to put on the wall in my craft room.  These are some pictures from my super fun 70's Birthday Party that I had a couple of years ago.  Hee Hee . . . aren't they hilarious?!?  I'm the one in the middle, my BFF is on the left and my sister is on the right.  The smaller pictures have our guys in them.  Doesn't everyone look great?!?!  It was so much fun!!

The tie dye looking background is this great glitter cardstock from Recollections.  It's super sparkly in real life, hopefully you can see it a little in the close up pictures below.  The fun silhouette and the "disco" are cut from the Groovy Times ~ Cricut Cartridge.  And the black cardstock is from Recollections.

What would the 70's be without flowers and happy faces?? Well, all of these fun flowers are cut with the My Creative Time ~ Flower Petal Dies.  The polka dot paper is my favorite Doodlebug Design ~ Petite Prints and the solid cardstock is Recollections.  I layered the flowers with pop dots in between and I also curled all of the petals to add some fun dimension. And in the center of each flower is an EK Success ~ Sticko - happy face sticker.  Aren't they cute??

They are just so much fun!  I love them!!!  Can you see the sparkly background?  It's so pretty.  The happy faces are also sparkly, but that was too hard to get a picture of...lol.

These great sentiments and the fun tag are from the brand new My Creative Time ~ Just Simply Live stamp set.  The ink is black ~ Ranger Archival Ink.  You are just going to love all the sentiments . . . they are super fun!

One of the BEST things about this stamp set is that it has a full alphabet and number set!!!  I know, right?!?!  How cool is that!! So in the upper right corner, I have the date of my "Big 4-0" birthday party.  :)

To make this "Happy Birthday!" sentiment, I used the alphabet stamps in this set.  Totally fabulous!  Now you can create any word or phrase you want!!!!!  AWESOME!!

Now, I also mentioned that this set has a Polaroid Die in it, so I wanted to show you that too.

This is my BFF and me without all of the 70's silliness. However, this is still a pretty silly picture.  We were at a CK Convention taking pictures of ourselves during our getaway weekend.  And this was taken right in the middle of a bunch of giggling.  It's one of our favorite pictures.  :)

But enough about me . . . how fabulous is the Polaroid Die??? Here is a closer shot:

Isn't it AWESOME??  It has Emma's signature stitching, which we all love.  And it has a beautiful decorative edge.  I have it turned on it's side for this card, but you could place it in any direction.  It's just so much fun!!

All of the patterned paper and the cute little butterflies are from the Die Cuts With A View ~ Blossoms & Butterflies stack. The solid pink and the white card base are from Recollections. The pretty little bow is made with Offray ~ ribbon.  And I hand cut the butterflies and popped them up and curled their wings to give them a little personality.

Once again, here are the fun sentiments and the cute tags.  I'm telling ya, this set has the best sentiments in it . . . so much fun! The ink is black ~ Ranger Archival Ink.

Well, my creative friends, I hope these made you smile today. For me, this is what crafting is all about . . . preserving our memories.  And boy were these some good memories!!!  :)
